One of Contemporary Christian music’s newest sounds out of Nashville, Hillcrest Church welcomes Jordan and Jessa Anderson to Sunday morning and evening services on Thanksgiving weekend. Leading worship at the 9:00 traditional worship service, the 10:45 Contemporary service, and a community Thanksgiving service at the church at 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, the Andersons’ music will inspire.
From a local ministry to area churches, to widespread popularity in radio, both Jordan and Jessa have top new hits on the most current Euro charts. Jessa’s “And You Love Me” has taken the number one spot, while Jordan’s individual work “Stand Up” is edging up at the 13th spot.
“Stand Up,” Jordan’s prophetic challenge, comes immersed in a folksy guitar laced ballad and highlights our decision to stand up for what we believe in. The song was written after Jordan and his friends were held up at gunpoint. Anderson replayed the holdup in his mind repeatedly, experiencing a series of emotions in the process. Those reflective episodes led to him to write Stand Up!, a song packed with deep-seated conviction. In the song’s refrain, Anderson asks the question, “What are you saving your life for?” It’s a question he now poses while touring. “As I tell I tell this story, I’m reminded how God uses the bad encounters in our lives to further His kingdom,” Anderson said. “My prayer since that day is that I don’t love life so much that I’m afraid to lose it.” Anderson began playing Stand Up! at churches, youth groups, and coffee houses. He found the song resonated with young and old alike.
Jessa Anderson views life as a grand adventure and she doesn't want to miss a single opportunity. Her music is relatable; her words like those of a close friend discussing the gritty details of real life. Growing up in a loving home in southeastern Michigan may not have given Jessa dramatic fuel for songwriting, but the 24-year-old songstress knows where to go for material. When writing, she draws on her struggles with body image, naivety and raw emotions to author honest and intensely personal lyrics. Jessa writes about the way she views the world, including a song (Little Girl) about watching a family redefine itself after a divorce. She writes about her relationship with Christ and the many lessons she has learned. With every word, she fights to tell the real stories of her life and those around her.
Meeting musician Jordan Anderson at 18 and marrying just shy of her 20th birthday, has given Jessa a unique perspective for a woman in her early 20s. Her debut album, "Fundamentally Broken" (July 2008), gave her the ability to share that perspective with the world. Top notch album production coupled with an authentic and impressive live sound is sure to catch the attention of listeners. Currently touring full time, she and Jordan are busy playing in churches, schools/universities and other venues. The pair reside in Nashville, TN.
